Akron RubberDucks News Release
Altoona, PA - Altoona shortstop Brock Holt went 2-5, with a double, triple and four RBI's Saturday night, leading the Curve to a 13-5 victory over the Akron Aeros at People's Natural Gas Field in Altoona.
The win snapped the Aeros seven-game winning streak against the Curve, and evened the current series at a game apiece. The Aeros (46-28) are now 8-2 against the Curve this season.
Holt's two-run triple off Aeros starter Brett Brach (2-3) came during a six-run second inning that extended the Curve lead to 8-0. The inning also included a pair of bunt singles, two fielding errors, two walks and a wild pitch, all of which helped orchestrate the Altoona onslaught.
Brach, who also surrendered a two-run home run in the first inning to Matt Curry, left with two outs in the fourth inning, trailing 8-0. Of the eight runs charged to Brach, only four were earned.
In the fifth, the Curve added four more against Jose De La Torre, two on a double by Holt, who increased his RBI total to 26. Those four tallies increased the margin to 12-1.
The night wasn't devoid of offense for the first-place Aeros, who maintained an 8 =C21/2 game lead due to Harrisburg's 2-1 loss at New Hampshire. Adam Abraham, playing his first game at third base, went 3-4, with three doubles and an RBI. Chun Chen and Jeremie Tice each homered. For Chen it was his second of the season. Tice drilled a three-run shot in the sixth, his first Double-A dinger.
Curve starter Shairon Maris was the beneficiary of the avalanche of Altoona runs, picking up the win despite yielding five runs over six innings. Martis (6-2) gave up eight hits and struck out three.
The Curve's total of 13 runs is the most scored against the Aeros in a single game this season. The eight-run margin also represents the most lopsided loss of the season for Akron.
The Aeros and Curve (34-38) will meet again on Sunday night at 6:00. Game three of the series will feature a pitching matchup of RHP Paolo Espino (1-2, 3.08) for Akron and RHP Phil Irwin (04, 4.35) for the Curve. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
