MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds (16-7) could not hold a four-run lead and dropped a 7-5 decision to the Round Rock Express in front of a sellout crowd of 10,517 Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds led 5-1 after the fourth inning before Round Rock (9-14) scored two in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one in the seventh. Every Round Rock starter had at least one hit in the game, as the Redbirds gave up a season-high 16 knocks in the contest.
Patrick Wisdom and Wilfredo Tovar both homered in the fourth inning, with Wisdom leading off the inning with an opposite-field shot and Tovar adding a two-run bomb three batters later. Tovar also had an RBI double in the second inning and finished 3-for-4.
Sean Gilmartin started and worked 3.2 innings for the Redbirds, allowing one run on three hits. Derian Gonzalez, Arturo Reyes, Sam Tuivailala, and John Brebbia combined to work the final 5.1 innings for the Redbirds.
Scott Heineman was 4-for-5 with a double and a home run for the Express.
The loss means Memphis has dropped its first series of the season after winning or splitting the first five sets of the campaign.
Memphis and Round Rock finish their five-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2:05. After the series finale, Memphis does battle with Oklahoma City Monday-Thursday. For more information on single-game tickets and ticket mini-memberships, visit www.memphisredbirds.com/tickets.
