March 9, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC South Carolina Stingrays veteran center Dave Seitz announced his retirement this afternoon at his house on James Island. Seitz holds every offensive record in Stingrays history, the retirement is effective immediately.
Seitz, a 5'10"-185lb native of Grand Island, NY, finishes his career with 489 games played, 217 goals, 370 assists and 587 points. His 370 assists rank him fifth all time in the ECHL.
"I couldn't see myself playing in another uniform in this league," said Seitz this afternoon. "This has been a tough season for me both on and off the ice. I would love to have finished off the season with this team, but I know that this is a business and that the Stingrays have tough decisions to make."
The Stingrays no longer had room on their roster for Seitz after acquiring veteran forward Mike Barrie on Sunday.
Seitz was awarded the ECHL Playoff MVP in 2001 when he helped the Rays to a second Kelly Cup Title by scoring 13 goals and adding 15 assists for 28 points in 18 games.
In addition to his playoff MVP, Seitz has received ECHL post season honors once (second team 2002), represented the Stingrays at the ECHL All Star game twice (1998,1999), been ECHL Player of the Month twice (November 1998, February 2002) and been league player of the week once (November 1998).
