Checkers try to start new winning streak at home this week

(Charlotte, NC - Tuesday, March 9) The Checkers continue their playoff pursuit stretch run this week with three home games at Cricket Arena. Wednesday and Friday the Checkers will play host to the Louisiana IceGators. Saturday night the Roanoke Express will come to town to close out the week.

On Monday the Checkers traded defenseman Marc St. Jean to the Augusta Lynx to complete a trade last week that brought goalie Gregg Naumenko to Charlotte. Tuesday the Hartford Wolf Pack returned goalie David St. Germain to the Checkers.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: The Checkers are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Southern Division with the Greensboro Generals with 67 points. Charlotte trails third place South Carolina by four points and second place Florida by five points. Charlotte opens up a three-game homestand at Cricket Arena this week beginning Wednesday when it will host the Louisiana IceGators at 7:00 p.m.

The Checkers will play a short, two-game season series with the Louisiana IceGators with games this Wednesday and Friday night at Cricket Arena. The IceGators and the Checkers have not played against each other since the 1997-98 season. Louisiana enters this week in first place in the Central Division of the Western Conference with a record of 41-16-2 for 84 points. Former NHL and AHL player Dave Farrish is the Head Coach of the IceGators. Louisiana goalie Frederic Cloutier is 4-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average in his last four games, while the IceGators rank second in the ECHL in goals allowed with 2.34 goals per game. Louisiana is affiliated with the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League, and the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. Lifetime, the Checkers are 6-2-0 against the IceGators.

Saturday, March 13: Roanoke @ Charlotte - 7:30 p.m.

Charlotte will play its' final home game in the six-game season series with the Roanoke Express Saturday night at Cricket Arena. The final game of the six-game season series will be played in Roanoke on Friday, April 2. The Checkers are 1-3-0 against the Express so far this season, with the lone Charlotte victory coming on Saturday, February 7 at Cricket Arena. The Express enters this week in sixth place in the ECHL's Southern Division of the Eastern Conference with a record of 29-26-6 for 64 points. Carl Mallette has a nine-game point streak (6g-9a=15pts) dating back to February 17, while goalie David Belitski is 4-0-0 with a 2.25 goals against average in his last four games. The Express has not played a game since Thursday, March 4 when they beat the Columbia Inferno. Lifetime the Checkers are 32-34-9 versus Roanoke.

· Checkers went 1-2-0 last week.

· The Checkers are 11-5-2 under new Head Coach Derek Wilkinson since he took over Jan 29

· Charlotte is 5-4-1 in its last 10 games.

· The Checkers are tied with Pensacola for the ECHL lead in short-handed goals with 14.

· Charlotte is second in the ECHL in road wins with 18.

· Left wing Dusty Jamieson has a three-game goal-scoring streak going with 4g, 1a = 5 pts in that span. He also has a four goals and three assists in his last five games and is tied with Allan Egeland for the scoring lead with 40 pts.

· Konrad McKay has a seven-game home assist streak (7a) dating back to February 14.

· After each scored at least a point in the Checkers three wins the previous week, Lucas Lawson, Richard Keyes and Mike Wirll were held pointless in all three Charlotte games last week.

· Rookie defenseman Rory Rawlyk leads the Checkers with 13 power-play assists.

· Defenseman Marc. St. Jean leads the ECHL in short-handed assists with five.

· Charlotte is tied for fourth place (the final playoff spot in the division) in the Southern Division of the Eastern Conference with the Greensboro Generals with 67 points.

· The Checkers are 26th on the power play at 15.6% while 4th on the penalty kill at 87.5%.
