South Carolina's Allen Named InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - South Carolina defenseman Chris Allen is the InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week for March 1-7.

Allen scored two game-winning goals and six points (3g-3a) as South Carolina went 3-0-0 on the road improving to 34-21-3 and moving into third place in the Southern Division, one point behind second place Florida.

The 6-3 and 205-pound Allen tallied a pair of assists, including one on the game-winning goal, in a 4-1 win at Fresno on March 2. The 25-year-old Allen scored the game-tying and the game-winning goal, a power-play goal, in a 3-1 win at Idaho on March 5. He closed out the week scoring the game winner with a power-play goal while also tallying an assist in a 4-2 win at Idaho.

Among ECHL defensemen, Allen is tied for fourth with three game-winning goals, tied for fifth with 13 goals and tied for 13th in scoring with 35 points (13g-22a). His 13 goals are a career professional high while his 35 points ties his career professional best. Allen, who has a season high four-game scoring streak (3g-4a), leads the team with 14 power-play assists and ranks second on the team in power-play goals (7), power-play points (21) and plus-minus (+8).

Selected in the third round (60th overall) by Florida in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Allen appeared in an NHL game with the Panthers in 1997-98 and again in 1998-99. In 2002-03 with Mississippi of the ECHL, he scored 10 points (2g-8a) in 11 regular season games and also appeared in five Kelly Cup Playoff games. He also played for Greensboro in 2002-03 scoring 14 points (6g-8a) in 51 games.

On behalf of Chris Allen, a case of pucks will be donated to a North Charleston area youth hockey organization by InGlasCo.
