ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Express is proud to announced that its fans helped the Muscular Dystrophy Association by raising $6,731.50 during the Sunday, February 29 game versus the Dayton Bombers. The money was raised through donations collected throughout the night, and during an auction for the jersey's worn by the Express players that night.

During the contest, local fire fighters collected just over $600 in donations from the crowd of 3,310. Following the game, the Express players, who were wearing special "fire fighter" designed uniforms, gathered on the ice to have their jersey's bid on by fans. At the conclusion of the auction, the bidding on the 21 uniforms raised $6,125.

"Once again we called upon our fans to come through for a very special cause, and as always they went above and beyond with their generosity." Express General Manager Chris Pollock said. "It was very satisfying to know in one night that we raised over $6,000 for the MDA."

The night concluded with a pick-up game between local fire fighters and law enforcement officials, which several hundred fans remained on had to watch.

The Express returns home to the Roanoke Civic Center on Wednesday, March 17 when it hosts the Alaska Aces at 7:00 p.m. For ticket or group information please contact the Express office at 343-4500.
