GREENVILLE,SC - The Florence Pride's two-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday at the BI-LO Center, as the Greenville Grrrowl defeated the Pride by a final score of 4-1.
After a scoreless first period, Greenville drew first blood 7:28 into the second period. Steve Burgess found Mike Nelson open between the circles, and Nelson's shot just beat Sebastien Laplante to the glove side for his 12th goal of the season.
The Grrrowl doubled their lead at 13:21. Robin DeLacour took a shot from the half wall that beat Laplante over the left shoulder.
Greenville picked up an insurance goal at the 6:57 mark of the third period. Vladimir Gusev allowed Nelson to skate free into the Pride zone, and Nelson fed a wide-open Michael Chin in front for his 18th goal of the season making it 3-0.
Kyle Kidney put the Pride on the scoreboard at the 12:39 mark, gathering in a pass from Wes Goldie and beating Michael Robinson for his 16th goal of the season.
That would be as close as the Pride would get, as Ryan Stewart added an empty-net tally with 50 seconds remaining.
Robinson was the main story for Greenville as the rookie goaltender turned aside 15 Pride shots in the third period and 29 for the game.
The Pride return to action Friday, hosting the South Carolina Stingrays for the final time this season at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
