
Stingrays' Daubenspeck Named ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - South Carolina goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck is the
ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for March 1-7.
Daubenspeck went 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals against average and a .957 save
percentage as South Carolina went 3-0-0 on the road improving to 34-21-3
and moving into third place in the Southern Division, one point behind
second place Florida.
After making 20 saves in a 4-1 win at Fresno on March 2, the 6-0 and
195-pound Daubenspeck stopped 42 of 43 shots in a 3-1 win at Idaho on March
5 and had 28 saves in a 4-2 win at Idaho on March 6. Selected in the
seventh round (151st overall) by Philadelphia in the 1992 National Hockey
League Entry Draft, Daubenspeck is 5-0-0 in his last five games, all road
games, while lowering his goals against average from 2.53 to 2.47 and
raising his save percentage from .921 to .923.
Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Daubenspeck is 27-10-2 with two shutouts and
ranks third in the ECHL in wins and 12th in goals against average. He leads
the league in shootout percentage with .894 (19 of 22) and is 4-0 in
shootouts. He was called up to Worcester of the American Hockey League and
appeared in one game, making 24 saves in a 2-0 loss at Hartford on February
21.
In 2002-03, he led the ECHL during the regular season with 36 wins, 1,802
saves and 3,454 minutes. The 36 wins were the most in the ECHL since Jan
Lasak of Hampton Roads won 36 games in 1999-2000. Daubenspeck appeared in
58 games in 2002-03, the most in the ECHL since 1999-2000.
