Second-Period Surge Lifts Falcons over Phantoms

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (28-8-1-3) scored the game's first four goals, all in the second period, en route to a 4-1 victory over the Adirondack Phantoms Monday afternoon at the MassMutual Center. With three straight wins, the Falcons have earned the most points in the American Hockey League this season with 60.

For the second consecutive game, the Falcons scored four goals in a single period Monday afternoon. After a scoreless opening frame, Springfield's Jean-Francois Jacques, Lukas Sedlak, Cody Goloubef and Michael Chaput each found the back of the net in the second period, giving the Falcons a 4-0 lead at the end of 40 minutes of play. Sedlak's score served as the eventual game-winner, the first of his pro career.

Goloubef and Jacques each finished the game with a goal, an assist and a +2 rating.

Adirondack's lone goal of the game came from Brandon Alderson at 11:27 of the third period.

Mike McKenna made 30 saves on 31 shots in net for the Falcons, earning his 10th win of the season and improving his league-leading goals-against average (1.73) and save percentage (.937).

Yann Danis made 12 saves on 16 shots between the posts for Adirondack through two periods before being replaced by Cal Heeter. Heeter stopped all five shots he faced in 18:37 of action.

The Falcons have won three straight games, improving the team's AHL-best points percentage to .750. Springfield now has the most wins (28) and points (60) in the AHL as well.

The team returns to action on the road Friday, January 24 versus the Hartford Wolf Pack at the XL Center. The Falcons are back at the MassMutual Center Saturday, January 25 to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:00 p.m.
