Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon has been loaned to the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgran.

Bourdon, 24, will join the team this week to begin his fifth season of professional hockey. The rugged blue-liner has been sidelined with post-concussion symptoms for the past 14 months but Paul Holmgren announced on Sunday that Bourdon was now ready for hockey again.

"Marc-Andre has continued his rehab the past couple of months," Holmgren said, "and has improved to the point where we anticipate him being loaned to the Phantoms this week and getting back on the road to playing professional hockey games."

It's been a long road back for Bourdon but he attributes the doctors he worked with in Ann Arbor, Michigan for identifying the root cause of his symptoms and launching his heeling process almost immediately.

"It was crazy because it went so fast when they put their finger on the right problem, which was the back of my cranium and my neck," Bourdon said. "All of my muscles were so tight. I could barely move my head, but I didn't realize it because it was so long. When they started clearing everything back there, the muscles, my head started clearing up and all my post-concussion symptoms were gone."

His last game was last season on November 30, 2012 for the Phantoms against the Binghamton Senators during the NHL lockout. He has played in 142 career games for the Phantoms scoring five goals with 32 assists for 37 points and 227 career penalty minutes. He also played in 45 games for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2011-12 scoring four goals and three assists with 52 penalty minutes.

"I'm very thankful to God to get me to Michigan," Bourdon said. "It didn't just improve my hockey. It improved my life in general. I thank God every day for that. I'm really grateful I can have a good life and be back to hockey and try to make my way back up."

Bourdon made his NHL debut on November 21, 2011 and a few weeks later would tally his first career NHL goal on December 13, 2011 against the Washington Capitals. He played in the Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park on January 2, 2012 and another highlight of his debut NHL season involved his opportunity to play against the Canadiens in his hometown area of Montreal. He was a third-round selection of the Flyers (#67 overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft out of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL.
