St. John's IceCaps News Release

ST. JOHN'S, NL - Michael Hutchinson - turning in a 26-save shutout performance in his first game at home - backstopped the St. John's IceCaps to a 2-0 win over the Manchester Monarchs Monday night at Mile One Centre.

Blair Riley and Andrew Gordon scored the goals for St. John's, which took two-of-three from Manchester with the victory.

Jean-Francois Berube made 25 saves in a losing effort for the Monarchs.

Riley put the IceCaps on the board first in the opening frame, when he notched his second of the season at 13:23. Carrying the puck out from behind the net, Riley - holding on to it with patience - wristed it high over the blocker of Berube to make it 1-0. John Albert and Austen Brassard picked up helpers on the goal.

After a scoreless second period, Gordon made it 2-0 at 5:06 of the third on a 4-on-3 power play. While Berube made the initial save on Will O'Neill's blast from the point, Gordon scooped up the loose disc in front of the net and buried it past Berube to seal the deal for St. John's.

The IceCaps' next action comes Friday in Providence (8:35 PM NT), as St. John's kicks off a five-game road trip with the first of two weekend games against the Bruins and a lone tilt with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
