
SeaWolves Stumble in Series Opener

Erie SeaWolves News Release
The first place Erie SeaWolves dropped the series opener to the Altoona Curve, 8-1 on Tuesday night at UPMC Park.
Erie took the lead in the second against Curve starter Aaron Shortridge. Quincy Nieporte led off with a walk and moved into scoring position on a one-out Bryan Packard single. He scored on a Daniel Cabrera sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.
Altoona took the lead in the top of the third against Erie starter Sawyer Gipson-Long. The Curve loaded the bases on an Andres Alvarez walk and consecutive singles by Connor Scott and Matt Fraizer. Liover Peguero hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Alvarez tying the game. Scott scored on a Nick Gonzles groundout and Endy Rodriguez doubled home Peguero for a 3-1 lead.
The Curve added to the lead to go ahead 4-1 in the fourth when Malcom Nunez homered to left.
Altoona scored for a third straight inning in the top of the fifth. Fraizer led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a Peguero groundout. He scored on a Rodriguez double.
In the top of the seventh, Altoona opened up a big lead against reliever Andrew Magno. Gonzalez walked with two outs and no one on, extending the inning for Rodriguez. He singled putting two on ahead of Henry Davis. Davis doubled home both baserunners making it 7-1. Davis would later score on a stolen base and an error for a seven-run Curve advantage.
Shortridge (2-4) earned the win allowing an unearned run on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in five innings.
Gipson-Long (2-2) took the loss allowing five runs on five hits with two walk and two strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
