Akron RubberDucks News Release
Ross Carver struck out 12 over six innings, but the Erie SeaWolves exploded for six in the seventh to down the Akron RubberDucks 6-2 on Saturday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Erie was held hitless until the top of the seventh inning. Justice Bigbie hit a slow roller that hit the bag at third for an infield single to break up the no-hitter. After Akron went to the bullpen, the SeaWolves offense took off with Jace Jung tying the game with a two-run home run. Chris Meyers added a solo home run two batters later before Luis Santana capped the six-run inning with a three-run shot.
Mound Presence
Carver was dominating from the first batter on. The right-hander struck out four in the first thanks to a batter reaching on a drop third strike. Carver continued to dominate striking out one in each inning, including the side in the third, to finish his night with 12 strikeouts over six innings allowing one run on one hit. Davis Sharpe followed allowing three runs on three hits over two-thirds of an inning. Tyler Thornton struck out two over an inning and a third while allowing two runs. Erik Sabrowski tossed a scoreless ninth.
Duck Tales
Juan Brito put the RubberDucks on the board quickly. After Milan Tolentino reached on a hit-by-pitch with one out, Brito launched a two-run home run to the pitch clock in dead center to put Akron ahead 2-0 in the first. Erie held the RubberDucks in check the rest of the way until the eighth when the RubberDucks loaded the bases with two out. The SeaWolves were able to escape the jam without allowing any damage by getting an inning ending flyout.
