Portland Drops Third Straight to Binghamton

Binghamton, New York - The Portland Sea Dogs (21-23, 61-52) fell to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (22-21, 57-55) 6-1 on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium. With the loss, the Sea Dogs fall to fourth place, 3.5 games behind the first place Somerset Patriots.

The Rumble Ponies were first to strike in the bottom of the second inning with a two run homer by Rowdey Jordan and Binghamton led, 2-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, Jaylen Palmer and J.T. Schwartz both worked walks against Wikelman Gonzalez. Jordan then struck again with a two-run single to right field, extending Binghamton's lead, 4-0.

In the fourth, Palmer reached on a walk again. He then stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by Portland's catcher Elih Marrero and was able to score then on a fielding error by Phillip Sikes.

Agustin Ruiz blasted Binghamton's second homer of the night and the Rumble Ponies continued to lead, 6-0.

The Sea Dogs avoided the shutout with a solo home run by Chase Meidroth in the top of the ninth inning.

RHP Dom Hamel (7-6, 4.29 ERA) was awarded the win tossing 6.0 shutout innings allowing four hits while walking one and striking out five. RHP Wikelman Gonzalez (1-1, 3.07 ERA) was given the loss, pitching 2.2 innings allowing four runs on two hits while walking four and striking out two.

The Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies will play the series finale tomorrow, Sunday August 20th at 1:05pm at Mirabito Stadium. Portland will send RHP Grant Gambrell (5-3, 3.56 ERA) to the mound while Binghamton will have LHP David Griffin (1-1, 5.14 ERA) on the bump.
