SeaWolves Sink Curve in Ninth, 6-5

ERIE, PA - On his 30th birthday, Erie catcher Max St. Pierre smashed two home runs, including a game-winning two run shot off of closer Ronald Uviedo in the bottom of the ninth inning to power SeaWolves (AA - Detroit Tigers) over the Altoona Curve 6-5 on Saturday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park.

Altoona (7-2) was trailing 3-1 in heading in to the top of the eighth inning, but Jim Negrych tied the game, 3-3 with a two-run home run in the frame.

Erie (1-8) would immediately counter in their half of the eighth when three straight base runners would reach off of reliever Tony Watson with two outs. Deik Scram tripled and eventually scored on a Josh Burrus RBI single to put the ‘Wolves ahead, 4-3.

In the ninth, Alex Presley singled and was bunted to second base by Shelby Ford. Jose de los Santos would draw a walk before Gorkys Hernandez looked at a called third strike. Negrych would again step to the plate and double to the left-centerfield alley to bring home both Presley and de los Santos to put the Curve ahead, 5-4. Negrych finished the afternoon going 2-for-5 with four RBIs. It is the third time that Negrych has enjoyed a four-RBI performance in his career.

Uviedo came on to close out the game but walked Cale Iorg to start the inning before St. Pierre belted the home run won the game.

Altoona starter Rudy Owens tossed six solid innings allowing three runs on seven hits. Owens struck out six batters and did not walk anyone.

The Curve will look to grab their third straight series victory on Sunday afternoon when they play the SeaWolves in the rubber match of the rain-shortened three-game series at 1:05 p.m. Altoona will give the ball to LHP Justin Wilson (1-0, 1.80) while Erie will counter with southpaw Andrew Oliver (0-1, 12.27). Radio coverage of Sunday's game will begin at 12:35 p.m. on flagship station ESPN Radio, 1430 - WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliates.
