B-Mets Five-Game Streak Ends in 13-8 Loss at New Hampshire

The B-Mets were sitting pretty after a five-run second inning, but their fortune quickly changed thanks to a 10-run output by New Hampshire in the fourth that put the Fisher Cats well on their way to a 13-8 triumph over Binghamton Saturday afternoon at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium. The day marked the end of multiple streaks including the B-Mets five-game winning streak and Marshall Hubbard's eight-game hitting streak.

Binghamton (6-4) struck early against Fisher Cats starter Bobby Bell. Bell issued a walk and a single to start the inning. With two on and no one out, D.J. Wabick broke out of an 0-12 slump with an RBI single to left to put the game's first run on the board. Later, Jose Coronado added another run with an RBI single. The big hit of the frame came from Luis Hernandez, who, with the bases loaded, doubled to the gap in left center to put the B-Mets ahead 5-0. Hernandez went 2-5 with three RBI to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

B-Mets starter Eddie Kunz was cruising through three innings, having faced one over the minimum, but the fourth inning turned out to be his undoing. He managed to get just one out in the frame before Derrick Ellison relieved him. At the time, he had issued back-to-back, bases-loaded walks to get the Fisher Cats within two. Ellison didn't fare much better as he allowed the runners left by Kunz to score, plus four of his own, making it 10-5 New Hampshire (5-4).

Zach Lutz responded for Binghamton in the fifth inning. The third baseman throttled his third homer in as many games off Bell, a two-run, no-doubt shot to left. He sent 2-5 and scored two runs to move his hitting streak to eight.

The B-Mets got within two the next frame when Jose Coronado smacked a solo homer to right off reliever Adrian Martin. It was the middle infielder's first homer of the season. He hit just one for Binghamton a year ago.

The Fisher Cats netted some insurance in the seventh with three runs off reliever Clint Everts to put the game out of reach.

Kunz allowed six runs in 3.1 innings and walked a season-high five men. The B-Mets staff walked a season-worst 11 men in the loss.

Bell picked up the win despite giving up seven earned runs in five innings worth of work.

The B-Mets look to take the series in the finale Sunday afternoon. LHP Eric Niesen (0-1, 3.12) will make his third start and the Fisher Cats will send veteran LHP Luis Perez (1-0, 0.00), a member of the Blue Jays 40-man roster.
