Birmingham Squadron News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron, NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, bested the Maine Celtics, 127-125, Thursday night at Legacy Arena at the BJCC on the back of a 27-point performance by two-way guard Malcolm Hill.

Hill, the league's leading scorer on the season, was assisted by two double-double performances from his Squadron (9-12) teammates, E.J. Liddell and Dereon Seabron. Each player scored 16, with Seabron recording 11 rebounds and Liddell registered 10 boards.

Karlo Matkovic made his G League debut with 19 points and nine rebounds on the night.

Birmingham led by six with just over 30 seconds remaining in the contest before two quick Celtic (11-10) buckets made the score 125-123 with 20.5 ticks to play. A D.J. Steward pull-up jumper after a Squadron turnover tied the game at 125 with 14.3 seconds left. Seabron drove the lane and a reverse layup found the bottom of the basket for Birmingham's winning bucket.

Joe Wieskamp scored a career-high 36 on 13-of-17 shooting from the field, while former Alabama Mr. Basketball JD Davison scored 28.

Birmingham and Maine are set for a rematch tomorrow night in the second contest of a back-to-back with tip-off set for 7 p.m. at Legacy Arena at the BJCC. The game can be seen nationally on Tubi or locally on My68.
