OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, lost to the Rip City Remix 116-104.
Malachi Smith and Milwaukee Bucks two-way player Ryan Rollins led the team with 21 points each while Wenyen Gabriel followed with a double-double of 20 points and 17 rebounds.
The Rip City Remix's top scorer was Antoine Davis with 41 points while Taze Moore added 25 points.
Rip City immediately took control of the game with an 8-2 lead in the first five minutes. The Herd battled back, outscoring the Remix 6-3 to come within three points. The teams traded two baskets each keeping it a three-point game until the Remix grabbed a near 10-point lead propelled by back-to-back three-pointers. Rip City continued to dominate offensively converting on 11 straight points to close out the first quarter 32-15.
Wenyen Gabriel opened the second quarter with a hook shot. The Remix knocked down one shot before the Herd hit seven unanswered points to make it a 10-point game. Rip City responded with consecutive baskets to take over. Wisconsin continued to cut down the lead, outscoring the Remix 10-2 over the next two minutes. The teams exchanged baskets keeping the lead in double-digits until the Herd scored 10 straight points to make it a four-point game. Rip City held a 53-48 lead at the break. Wenyen Gabriel guided the Herd with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds in the first half.
The Remix converted on the first play of the third quarter, but the Herd was quick to answer. Wisconsin stayed within three points until Rip City knocked down three consecutive baskets. Glenn Robinson III made a free throw before the Remix went on a deadly 17-2 run to go up 82-60. Wisconsin answered every Remix basket to close out the quarter. Rip City led 90-69.
Rip City secured two baskets putting them ahead by 16 to start the fourth quarter. Wisconsin came back with nine sequential points. Stevie Thompson Jr. and TyTy Washington Jr. combined with four points to keep the Herd within 15. Malachi Smith added another basket before Rip City added five uncontested points. The Herd hit a hot streak with three uninterrupted three-pointers. The Remix hit two buckets before the Herd finished the game with five straight points. The Rip City Remix took home the win 116-104.
The Wisconsin Herd will take on the Rip City Remix again at home on Saturday, February 24 with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
