Birmingham Squadron Announce Addition of Karlo Matkovic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron today announced the addition of Karlo Matkovic to the roster for the New Orleans Pelicans' G League affiliate.

As a member of the Pelicans Summer League Team in 2023, Matkovic played in four contests and averaged seven points in 20.2 minutes per game. He also recorded 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks a game in Las Vegas.

Matkovic was selected by New Orleans with the 52nd overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and played for Slovenian KK Cedevita Olimpija of the Adriatic Basketball Association during the 2022-23 season, in which the Croatian averaged 8.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in ABA and EuroCup play.

Over six seasons overseas, he has played for three different teams in Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia.

A native of Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Matkovic stands at 6-11 and plays both forward and center positions.

In a corresponding roster move, Birmingham has waived guard Pavel Savkov.

Matkovic will become active for the Squadron's 7 p.m. tip-off Thursday against the Maine Celtics at Legacy Arena at the BJCC.
