Sea Dogs Win Third Straight over Fisher Cats

Manchester, New Hampshire - The Portland Sea Dogs (7-1) won their third straight game over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (4-4) 6-1 behind 5.0 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts for CJ Liu along with a 3-for-5 day at the plate for Ceddanne Rafaela.

Ceddanne Rafaela put the Sea Dogs on the board in the top of the third inning with an RBI single to score Phillip Sikes and Portland took the early lead, 1-0.

The scoring erupted in the top of the fifth inning after back-to-back singles to stationed Nick Yorke and Rafaela on first and second base, respectively then a walk by Niko Kavadas loaded the bases. Yorke came around to score on a wild pitch before a two-run double from Matthew Lugo brought home Rafaela and Kavadas. Lugo would represent the final run scored in the inning after Christian Koss singled to left field and Portland extended their lead, 5-0

In the top of the sixth inning, Edwin Diaz hit a leadoff triple, his first hit of the year. Diaz would come around to score on a single by Elih Marerro, further extending Portland's lead, 6-0.

The Fisher Cats scored their first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the same inning courtesy of a solo homer off the bat of Will Roberston, but Portland held the lead, 6-1.

Portland starter, RHP CJ Liu (1-0, 3.00 ERA) earned his first win of the season after tossing 5.0 innings, allowing no runs, three walks, and five hits, while striking out eight. New Hampshire starter, LHP Jimmy Robbins (1-1, 2.79 ERA) was issued the loss after pitching 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out five.

The Sea Dogs return to Delta Dental Stadium tomorrow for the final game of the six-game set against the Fisher Cats. First pitch is slated for 1:05pm. RHP Wyatt Olds (0-0, 10.80 ERA) will have the start for Portland, while New Hampshire will send RHP Adam Kloffenstein (0-1, 9.00) to the mound.
