
Sea Dogs Win Sixth Straight on Saturday Night

Binghamton, New York - The Portland Sea Dogs (39-41) scored double-digit runs for the fourth time of the series, using a 4-for-6 night from Ceddanne Rafaela to take down the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (32-49) 11-5 at Mirabito Stadium.
Once again, the Sea Dogs started the scoring in the top of the first inning. Rafaela collected a one-out base hit and proceeded to steal second. Christian Koss reached on a throwing error, advancing Rafaela to third. Izzy Wilson brought in the first run on a base hit to center, scoring Rafaela to give the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead. Stephen Scott got things going again with a walk and David Hamilton drove in Koss with an RBI groundout, increasing the lead to 2-0.
Portland went right back to it in the top of the second frame. Nick Sogard led off with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout from Elih Marrero. Alex Binelas walked, and Rafaela singled to load the bases. Koss lifted a sacrifice fly to right, plating Sogard, expanding the advantage to 3-0.
The Rumble Ponies responded in the bottom of the second. Wyatt Young and Jeremy Vasquez worked back-to-back walks and a passed ball advanced them to second and third. Zach Ashford hit a line-drive single to center, bringing in Young, cutting into Portland's lead, 3-1.
Three more runs came in to score in the top of the fourth for the Sea Dogs. Sogard and Marrero started the inning with base hits, putting runners on the corners. Binelas stepped in and cleared the bases with a three-run blast, adding to the lead, 6-1. Portland plated two more runs in the top of the sixth on RBI singles by Rafaela and Wilson, making it an 8-1 game.
Binghamton started clawing away at the deficit in the bottom of the sixth. Luke Ritter led off the inning with a solo shot, bringing the score to 8-2. One out later, Nick Meyer and Young both walked. Vazquez knocked in Meyer with a base hit to left, bringing the Rumble Ponies with four runs, 8-4. Brandon McIlwain added to Binghamton's score with a line-drive base hit to center, plating Vazquez, still trailing the Sea Dogs 8-5.
The Sea Dogs added insurance runs in the top of the ninth. Scott and Hamilton singled, while Kole Cottam was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sogard, Marrero, and Binelas worked back-to-back-to-back walks, increasing their lead to 11-5. Rio Gomez entered for the Sea Dogs in the top of the ninth, striking out two in route to an 11-5 victory.
Zach Bryant (1-3, 7.82 ERA) picked up his first win of the season, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and striking out four. Justin Lasko (3-2, 6.17 ERA) worked through 5.0 innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on six hits while walking three and striking out one in his second loss of the season.
The Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies play the finale of a six-game series on Sunday with first pitch at 1:05 PM. Portland's starter is to be announced and will face Binghamton RHP Jose Chacin (0-5, 7.50 ERA).
