YESTERDAY: The Flying Squirrels lost to the Fightin Phils, 4-2, in 10 innings. Kyle Harrison started on the mound and pitched six scoreless innings. Brandon Martorano gave Richmond a 1-0 lead i the seventh with an RBI double. Reading took a 2-1 lead in the eighth with RBI singles by Johan Rojas and Wendell Rijo. In the bottom of the eighth, Diego Rincones tied the game, 2-2, with an RBI double. Reading scored two runs in the top of the 10th and held Richmond off the board in the bottom of the inning.

The Flying Squirrels went 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

TODAY'S GAME: The Flying Squirrels play the fifth of a six-game series against the Reading Fightin Phils, Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. This series is the only match-up of the season between the two teams. Last year, the Flying Squirrels went 8-4 against the Fightin Phils, including a 3-3 mark at The Diamond.

TICKET PUNCHED: The Flying Squirrels clinched the Eastern League Southwest Division First-Half title with a win on May 26 paired with a loss by the Akron RubberDucks against the Harrisburg Senators. Richmond finished the first half tied with Akron, but held the tiebreaker with a 7-5 head-to-head record. The league adopted the split-season format in 2019. After playing a full-season system last year, they returned to the split-season format this year. The Flying Squirrels will play in the Eastern League playoffs for the third time in franchise history. In 2011, they swept the Senators in the division series before falling to the Fisher Cats in the ELCS, three games to one. In 2014, they eliminated the RubberDucks in four games before being swept in the championship series by the Binghamton Mets.

THE FLYING SQUIRRELS have gone 3-7 to open the second half, including dropping five-of-six last week at Bowie and splitting the first four games of this week's series. The Flying Squirrels have won seven series, lost four and split two this year. Richmond hitters lead the league with 885 strikeouts and rank second with 102 homers. The Flying Squirrels are 24-16 at home this year.

Richmond is 19-13 in games decided by two-or-less runs.

THE FIGHTIN PHILS went 29-40 in the first half, finishing in fifth place in the Northeast Division and ninth overall in the Eastern League. In their first series of the second half, they went 4-2 at home against first-half Northeast Division-champion Somerset in last week's series. Reading's roster includes seven of MLB.com's top-30 Phillies prospects, including C Logan O'Hoppe (3), OF Johan Rojas (4), RHP Griff McGarry (8), RHP Francisco Morales (9), OF Jhailyn Ortiz (11), OF Simon Muzziotti (19) and RHP McKinley Moore (28).

FOR RICHMOND: Left-hander Jake Dahlberg makes his 15th start of the season and his first against the Fightin Phils. Last time out, Dahlberg allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings in a loss to the Baysox in Bowie on Sunday afternoon. He has worked at least five innings in seven-of-his-last-eight starts. Dahlberg spent parts of three seasons with the independent Chicago Dogs before signing with the Giants during the 2021 season. He joined the High-A Eugene Emeralds in July and made 10 starts, going 2-5 with a 6.60 ERA. He closed the year with two outings with Triple-A Sacramento and tossed 9.0 scoreless innings. After being named Horizon League Pitcher of the Year twice at the University of Illinois-Chicago, he was selected in the 21st round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. FOR READING: Right-hander Noah Skirrow makes his 13th start of the season. He made two starts in last week's series against Somerset in Reading. Last Tuesday, he pitched a season-high seven innings and allowed one run in a win. On Sunday, he picked up a loss after surrendering six runs over 4.1 innings. A native of Ontario, Skirrow spent his collegiate career in Lynchburg, Va., at Liberty University. In his shortened junior season in 2020, he was part of a combined no-hitter in a 6-4 win over Marist, the program's first since April 2000. He signed with the Phillies as a free agent on June 16, 2020.

PACKING THE HOUSE: This season, the Richmond Flying Squirrels are leading all of Double-A in average attendance (6,214) and total attendance (242,338). Richmond is 12th of the 120 MiLB teams in average attendance. The 9,810 fans at The Diamond on Opening Night and again on July 4 are the largest crowds in all of Double-A this year.

POWER SURGE: The Richmond offense has hit 102 home runs this season, which is second in the Eastern League with Somer- set (105). Sean Roby is tied for first in the league with 22 homers on the season, with 16 coming at The Diamond. Last year, the Flying Squirrels set a franchise record with 127 homers, surpassing the previous record of 109 from 2013. This year, the Flying Squirrels are on pace to hit 178 home runs. The Flying Squirrels have already hit more homers than entire seasons in 2010 (71), 2011 (83) 2012 (76), 2014 (74) and 2015 (61), 2016 (83), 2017 (93) and 2019 (84).

GO, DIEGO, GO!: After hitting .173 (22-for-127) over his first 35 games of the season, Diego Rincones is batting .392 (31-for-79) with five doubles, five homers and 19 RBIs over his last 21 games since June 7. On June 12 against the SeaWolves, he picked up his first three-hit game of the year, capped with a walk-off single, his second walk-off winning with the Flying Squirrels. He has homered in four of his last 11 games played. In last week's series at Bowie, Rincones hit .600 (12-for-20) with a homer and two RBIs and struck out twice. He is hitting .154 (2-for-13) in this week's series against Reading with a double and two RBIs.

SHANE TRAIN: From May 1-June 30, Shane Matheny hit .315 (39-for-124) with eight homers, five doubles, a triple and 24 RBIs in 38 games. Over his last five games since July 1, Matheny is batting .048 (1-for-21) with a double and two RBIs, but has walked five times. From May 14-June 10, he posted a 13-game hitting streak, tied for the longest in the EL this season at the time. From May 1-June 11, Matheny posted a 24-game on-base streak, which was the second-longest in the league this season. In the Eastern League this season, Matheny is ranked fifth in OBP (.405).

TOASTY: Over his last six games since July 1, Frankie Tostado is batting .292 (7-for-24) with a homer, two doubles and six RBIs.

On Wednesday, he hit the first grand slam of his professional career in a win over Reading. He hit .175 (10-for-57) over a 16-game stretch from June 9-29. From April 22-June 8, Tostado hit .342 (51-for-149) with seven homers, nine doubles, a triple and 26 RBIs in 39 games. In the Eastern League, Tostado is ranked fourth in batting average (.291), tied for third in hits (78) and tied for ninth in total bases (129).

ROBUST: Sean Roby hit his 21st homer of the year on Monday night against the Fightin Phils, moving him ahead of David Villar for the most home runs in a season in Flying Squirrels franchise history. He added his 22nd homer on Thursday night. Roby is tied for first in the EL in home runs this year with Erie's Kerry Carpenter. He has hit 18 homers at The Diamond this season, which is a new record for the most at home for a Flying Squirrels player in franchise history, ahead of 10 by Adam Duvall in 2013. It is also a new franchise record for the most career homers at The Diamond. He has also set the franchise record for the most multi-homer games in a season and a career with four.

IN THE LEAGUE LEADERS: Frankie Tostado is ranked fourth in batting average (.291), tied for third in hits (78) and tied for ninth in total bases (129). Sean Roby is tied for first in homers (22) and eighth in SLG (.516). Shane Matheny is fifth in OBP (.405). Mike Gigliotti is tied for eighth in OBP (.385) and tied for fourth in stolen bases (19). Ryan Walker is tied for second in wins (6). Chris Wright is tied for fifth in saves (6). Matt Frisbee is tied for first in complete games (1).

WHERE THE FIGHTIN PHILS RANK: In the Eastern League, Logan O'Hoppe is tied for eighth in homers (14), 10th in OBP (.383), sixth in SLG (.521) and fifth in OPS (.904). Josh Ockimey is fourth in OBP (.407) and first in walks (56). Vito Friscia is sixth in OBP (.399) and third in walks (51). Jonathan Guzman and Kevin Vicuna are tied for third in triples (4). Brian Marconi is tied for first in games pitched (30) and tied for first in saves (11). McKinley Moore is tied for third in games pitched (29). Bubby Rossman and Matt Seelinger are tied for fifth in games pitched (27).

PROSPECT WATCH: The Flying Squirrels have four players ranked in Baseball America's Top-30 Giants prospects, including Kyle Harrison (2), Ryan Murphy (10), Ricardo Genovés (24) and Chris Wright (27). Franklin Labour is rated by Baseball America as having the "Best Outfield Arm." Simon Whiteman is listed as the system's "Fastest Baserunner." Harrison is rated by Baseball America as having the "Best Slider" in the organization. MLB.com's Top-30 Giants prospect list includes Harrison (2), Murphy (11), Brett Auerbach (27), Genovés (29) and Kai-Wei Teng (30). Harrison is Baseball America's No. 64 overall prospect and MLB.

com's No. 45 overall prospect.

LOOKING AT THE FUTURE: On Wednesday, it was announced by Major League Baseball that LHP Kyle Harrison will partic- ipate in the 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 16. Harrison, currently rated by MLB.com as the San Francisco Giants' No. 2 prospect and the No. 27 overall prospect in baseball, will represent the Giants in the annual prospect showcase as part of MLB's All-Star festivities. The 2022 Futures Game features the top Minor League prospects competing as part of the first-ever All-Star Saturday. It will once again feature a National League vs. American League format, which was introduced in 2019 following 20 years of U.S. vs. World matchups. The game, which is scheduled for seven innings, will begin at 7 p.m. ET/4 PT exclusively on Peacock and SiriusXM.
