Trenton Thunder News Release
Despite jumping out to an 8-3 lead after three innings, the Thunder dropped the opener of their three-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs, 12-10, on Friday night in front of 5,347 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park.
The Thunder held a 9-5 advantage after six when the Sea Dogs broke through for seven runs against Chris Smith. Oscar Tejeda tied the game with a base hit and Keury De La Cruz drove in two more with a double to right-center to take a 11-9 advantage. Alex Smith relieved Chris Smith and surrendered a run-scoring double to Luis Martinez to give the Sea Dogs the 12-9 advantage.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Thunder cut into the lead with an RBI double from Taylor Dugas which scored Aaron Judge. However, Portland closer Pat Light entered and struck out Dan Fiorito to end the threat and finished off a four-out save to preserve the victory for Portland.
Francisco Arcia and Ali Castillo each drove in three runs to lead the Thunder offense. The Thunder eclipsed double-digit runs for the third time this season. Aaron Judge went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two driven in and Cito Culver went 3-for-4 with a run scored an RBI and a walk.
The game also marked the first time in franchise history that three different pitchers with the same last name were the only ones to appear on the mound for the team. Caleb Smith took a no-decision despite throwing six innings, Chris Smith took the loss and Alex Smith threw the final 2.1 innings and allowed just two baserunners.
Your Thunder will continue their three-game homestand with the Sea Dogs on Saturday night at 7:00pm. The Thunder will send RHP Eric Ruth (2-0, 2.22), the Sea Dogs will send RHP Mike Augliera (2-7, 4.44).
