Stratton stifles Fightin Phils for first win

The Fightin Phils (25-22) dropped their first game to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (22-23) this season as they lost 5-2 on Friday night. The Fightin Phils entered the game 6-0 against Richmond on the year.

Ricky Oropesa hit a solo home run off Ben Lively (4-2) in the top of the second inning to give the Flying Squirrels a 1-0 lead. The home run was the sixth allowed by Lively this season. Richmond extended their lead to 3-0 on a two-run double by Rando Moreno off Lively.

Lively put the Fightin Phils within two-runs as he hit into a RBI fielder's choice off Chris Stratton (1-5) to score Rene Garcia. The game wouldn't stay at 3-1 for long as Richmond scored another run off Lively in the top of the 5th with two outs. Mitch Delfino hit a RBI single to score Devin Harris to give Richmond a 4-1 lead.

Lively left the game after five innings. He allowed four runs off a season-high ten hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Lee Ridenhour entered the game in relief in the top of the sixth inning. He gave up a RBI single to Delfino with two-outs in the top of the 7th to see Richmond extend their lead to 5-1. Ridenhour left the game after three innings in relief.

Fightin Phils scratched out another run off Stratton in the bottom of the 8th. Brian Pointer scored on a wild-pitch from third-base to cut the Flying Squirrels lead to 5-2. Stratton left the game after eight innings as he allowed just two runs. Colton Murray tossed a scoreless top of the ninth inning with two strikeouts. Josh Osich recorded his tenth save of the season.

The Fightin Phils will be back at it on Saturday night against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. First pitch is at 6:35 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:05 pm.
