Sea Dogs Fall to Fightin Phils 3-2

Reading, Pennsylvania - The Portland Sea Dogs (54-56, 24-17) fell to the Reading Fightin Phils (50-60, 21-20) Wednesday night, 3-2 at FirstEnergy Stadium. With the loss, the Sea Dogs drop out of first place and are now 0.5 game behind the first place Somerset Patriots.

The Fightin Phils jumped on the scoreboard first and took the 2-0 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run home run by Carlos De La Cruz off of Sea Dogs' starter Brian Van Belle.

Portland answered in the top of the fifth inning. After Christian Koss was hit by a pitch, he moved to second on a single to right field by Hudson Potts. Nick Northcut then lined a two-run double to left field and the Sea Dogs tied the game, 2-2.

Reading took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning. After a lead-off single by Wendell Rijo, he then stole second base. Jaihlyn Ortiz drove him home with a single to left field and the Fightin Phils led, 3-2.

Kyle Hart tossed 2.2 shutout innings in relief for Portland, striking out six while allowing just one hit.

Reading's starter Ethan Lindow (5-3, 3.58 ERA) earned the win tossing 6.0 innings allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Portland starter Brian Van Belle (4-3, 4.10 ERA) was given the loss pitching 5.0 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out two. Brian Marconi earned his 18th save of the year for the Fightin Phils throwing a scoreless ninth inning.

The Sea Dogs and Fightin Phils square off again tomorrow, Thursday August 18 at 7:00pm at FirstEnergy Stadium. Portland will send RHP Bryan Mata (3-2, 2.45 ERA) to the mound while Reading is TBA.
