Sea Dogs Fall to Akron 8-2 in Series Opener

Portland, Maine - The Sea Dogs (42-69) tied a season-high with five errors and the Akron RubberDucks (56-57) took game one of their series in Portland by a final score of 8-2 on Friday night at Hadlock Field.

Just three of Akron's eight runs were earned. The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Eric Haase drove in Nellie Rodriguez with a double off of Kevin McAvoy. Later in the inning Haase scored on an error by Yoan Moncada to put Akron ahead 2-0.

McAvoy (L, 7-7) allowed six runs (two earned) on eight hits in 5.1 innings while walking two and striking out two.

The RubberDucks blew things open with a five-run sixth inning. Eric Haase hit a long homer over the Dunkin' Donuts video board to make it 3-0, then two more runs scored on Moncada's second error. Jordan Smith followed with an RBI single and Nellie Rodriguez hit a sac fly to make it 7-0 Akron.

Akron starter Rob Kaminsky (W, 6-7) went five scoreless innings and allowed just three hits and two walks, he struck out five.

The Sea Dogs scored both their runs in the sixth inning off of Robbie Aviles. After loading the bases with nobody out, Cody Decker hit a grounder to third that was misplayed by Joe Sever and everyone was safe. Jake Romanski then hit into a 5-4-3 double play, but Nate Freiman scored to make it a 7-2 game.

Akron added a run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Luigi Rodriguez.

The Sea Dogs and RubberDucks play game two of their series at 6:00 PM tomorrow evening at Hadlock Field.
