Trenton Thunder News Release
CITY ISLAND, PA - The Trenton Thunder and Harrisburg Senators engaged in a pitcher's duel Friday night at First National Bank Field, with a four-run 3 rd inning being decisive in the H-Sens' 5-0 victory.
Thunder starting pitcher Will Carter went a Double-A-high six innings at the start and just had one blip in the 3rd inning after facing the minimum six hitters in the first two innings. Harrisburg sent seven men to the plate in the frame and used a walk and three hits to jump out to the early lead.
Matt Wotherspoon entered out of the bullpen for the final two innings for the Thunder, allowing a run in the 7th inning on an RBI single by Adrian Sanchez to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Thunder offense matched Harrisburg with six hits, yet were shutout for the sixth time this season. Mark Payton finished as the lone Thunder batter with multiple hits, going 2-for-4. Dustin Fowler entered the night with a 16-game hit streak and finished 0-for-4 to end the longest hit streak for the Thunder since Francisco Arcia saw his 19-game hit streak snapped July 31, 2014.
Trenton maintains it 7.0 game lead over the Hartford Yard Goats for the second playoff spot in the East Division with 30 games left in the regular season.
After falling in Game 1 of the three-game series, the Thunder look to bounce back with a win Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 5:45 p.m. on 91.3 FM and online at www.trentonthunder.com.
