Summary
Akron's Eric Haase homered, doubled, and drove in a pair of runs Friday night, helping the RubberDucks to an 8-2 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs in the opener of a three-game series at Hadlock Field.
Turning Point
The RubberDucks sent nine men to the plate and scored five times in the sixth inning to build a 7-0 lead. Haase slugged a solo home run off Kevin McAvoy (7-7) to make it 3-0. It was Haase's 10th of the season. After a pitching change, Jordan Smith had an RBI single, Nellie Rodriguez had a sacrifice fly and the Sea Dogs committed two of their five errors in the game. Four of the runs in the inning were unearned.
Winging It
Rob Kaminsky (6-7) started for the RubberDucks and tossed five scoreless innings. He allowed only three hits and fanned five. Kaminsky has now thrown 11 straight scoreless innings over his last two starts. Portland reached Robbie Aviles for a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Louis Head worked a pair of scoreless innings to finish up.
Duck Tales
Haase opened the scoring with an RBI double in the fourth. He was 2-5 on the night. Nellie Rodriguez was 3-4, with three singles and a sacrifice fly. He now leads the team with 64 RBI. Luigi Rodriguez had a pair of hits, including an RBI single in the ninth inning to extend Akron's lead to 8-2. Greg Allen stroked a third-inning single to give him a six-game hitting streak.
Notebook
The RubberDucks (56-57) snapped a five-game losing streak...The Sea Dogs (42-69) committed five errors, three of which were charged to second baseman Yoan Moncada...Akron had two runners thrown out at the plate...The RubberDucks pulled to within six games of first-place Altoona, who lost at Reading, 6-3, but remained 5 1/2 games behind 2nd-place Harrisburg... Time of game: 2:59 ... Attendance: 5,923.

The RubberDucks will play the middle game of the series at Portland on Saturday evening at 6:00. Neither the Sea Dogs nor the RubberDucks have announced a starter. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM, the WARF iHeart channel, and the TuneIn Radio App.
