
Reading Fightin Phils Score Late to Complete Comeback

The Fightin Phils (75-37) have now won four-straight games as they beat the Altoona Curve (61-50) 6-3 on Friday night. Reading fell behind 2-0 early then scored runs in the final three innings before closing out the game in the top of the ninth.
Edwin Espinal hit a RBI single off Mark Leiter Jr. (5-1) in the top of the first to give Altoona a 1-0 lead. Eric Wood hit a home run off Leiter Jr. in the top of the fourth to extend the Curve's lead to 2-0. Rhys Hoskins hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth off Curve starter Alex McRae to cut Altoona's lead to 2-1. The RBI for Hoskins was his 99th of the season.
Leiter Jr. left the game after allowing two runs off five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innings. Trey Haley (0-1) took the mound for Altoona in the bottom of the seventh. Angelo Mora hit a game-tying RBI double. Roman Quinn hit a single then moved to second on a throwing error by Haley that allowed Mora to score and give Reading a 3-2 lead.
Jimmy Cordero pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning. The Fightins grabbed three runs off Curve reliever Brett McKinney in the bottom of the eighth to extend their lead to 6-2. Roman Quinn hit a RBI single that was followed by a two-run double by Scott Kingery.
Alexis Rivero took the mound in the top of the ninth and gave up three consecutive singles before being pulled out of the game for Miguel Nunez. Altoona got a run off a double-play ground-ball then Elvis Escobar grounded out to shortstop to end the game. Nunez earned his 14th save of the season.
The Fightin Phils and Altoona Curve will play again on Saturday night. Fans can listen to the game on Sports Radio AM 1240/FM 98.5 and fightins.com beginning at 6:05 pm. Fans can also watch the game on MiLB.tv beginning at 6:35 pm.
