Aberdeen, MD - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers scored nine runs over the first three innings and beat the Aberdeen IronBirds 14-3. The game was called in the eighth inning when a thunderstorm came and knocked out power at Ripken Stadium.

The Scrappers scored nine runs off of IronBird starter Matt Hobgood. They used eight hits, including a Todd Hankins two run home run to bolt out to an early lead.

Aberdeen tried to come back in the middle portion of the game. Martin Serrata hit a one out double in the bottom of the third and scored on a Glynn Davis fielder's choice to make it 9-1 in favor of the Scrappers.

The IronBirds struck again in the fourth. Dudley Leonora led off with a single, and two batters later Wynston Sawyer hit a single of his own, putting two runners aboard with one out. Mychal Givens then hit an RBI double, which scored Leonora. Two batters later, Serrata hit a single to right field that allowed Sawyer to score. Givens tried to score from second, but was gunned down at the plate.

Mahoning Valley added a run in the seventh and four more in the eighth before the game was called as the ninth inning was about to begin.

Matt Hobgood took the loss for Aberdeen. He falls to 0-3 on the season. He went two and two thirds innings, allowed eight hits, nine runs (all earned), walked two and struck out two as well.
