Jamestown Jammers News Release

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Staten Island jumped out to an early lead, and the Jamestown offense failed to string anything together as the Yankees blanked the Jammers, 5-0, Monday afternoon at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

The Baby Bombers scored a run in the first and two in the second to put the game out of reach, while the Jamestown offense was held to just four hits after pounding out 27 hits in the first two games of the series.l

Pedro Mendoza paced the Jamestown offense with two hits including a double, while Kentrell Dewitt and Marquise Cooper each had one hit.

Staten Island jumped on the board in the first inning on a manufactured run. Mason Williams singled then stole second base. He moved to third on a fly out before scoring on a ground out by Ben Gamel.

The Yankees loaded the bases on a double, single and walk in the bottom of the second with nobody out. After Jamestown got a runner at the plate for the first out, Robert Reinard blooped one to center to score another two runs before a double play ended the frame.

The Jammers best and only real scoring opportunity came in the top of the third inning.

Mendoza doubled, Cooper singled and Austin Barnes walked to fill the bases with two outs; however, Terrence Dayleg grounded out to end the threat.

The Jammers got the leadoff runner in the fifth and sixth; however, both times the runner was immediately eliminated when the next batter bounced into a double play.

Staten Island pushed across another run in the seventh inning on three singles, and they added another in the eighth on a double by Reymond Nunez to put the game out of reach.

Williams paced the Staten Island offense with three hits. Nunez, Gamel and Angelo Gumbs each added two hits with a double, and Robert Rinard delivered two singles.

Will Oliver picked up the victory for Staten Island after going five innings, giving up three hits and fanning three, while Dejai Oliver was handed the loss after surrendering three runs and five hits in four innings.

The Jammers will now Tri-City for three games starting tonight at 7:05 p.m.
