Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen, MD - The New York-Penn League announced today that Aberdeen IronBirds starting pitcher Trent Howard was named the circuit's Pitcher of the Week.

Howard received the honor for the week ending July 31st. He pitched twice in seven-day time frame, going 1-0. In 11 scoreless innings, Howard surrendered just four hits and four walks while striking out 15 batters. Howard is the first IronBirds player this season to take home a league player of the week award.

Selected in the seventh round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Central Michigan, Howard has gone 2-1 with a 2.30 ERA in eight appearances for the IronBirds this season. This past spring for the Chippewas, Howard posted a 4-4 record with a 2.78 ERA in 14 starts.

The IronBirds will try to avoid a three-game sweep tonight as they take on the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Cleveland Indians) at Ripken Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

The Aberdeen IronBirds sold out season tickets for the 10th straight season. Group packages and single-game tickets, however, are still available for the 2011 season. For ticket information, contact our box office at (410) 297-9292 or visit us online at www.IronBirdsbaseball.com.
