August 1, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters allowed six runs to the Hudson Valley Renegades in the fifth inning Monday night, dropping the series finale 6-1 at Historic Bowman Field.
The Renegades broke a scoreless tie in top of the fifth by exploding for six runs on five hits, also capitalizing on a Cutters error and three stolen bases for the commanding lead. Chris Winder's two-run single and Jeff Malm's two-run double were the key hits in the inning.
The Cutters scored their lone run in the bottom of the ninth, as Taylor Black lifted a sac fly to right to put the home team on the board 6-1.
Cutters starter Colin Kleven took the loss after allowing three earned runs over four-plus innings. Renegades starter Ryan Carpenter picked up his first professional win, hurling five shutout innings for the visitors in his second pro start.
With the loss, the Cutters fall to two games behind first-place Mahoning Valley in the Pinckney Division standings. Williamsport hits the road Tuesday for three games in Brooklyn and two in Batavia before returning home August 7.
