Scrappers Get Spun by Lowell Spinners

Niles, OH-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell behind by three runs in the first inning and never got back into the game on Thursday night. The Lowell Spinners would add 10 more runs on their way to a 13-1 win at Eastwood Field.

In the top of the first inning the Spinners would get the scoring started on an RBI sacrifice fly by Ryan Scott to score Chris Madera for the 1-0 lead. The Spinners pushed it out to a 3-0 lead when Tucker Tubbs connected on a two run homerun on the next pitch.

Mahoning Valley would make it a two run game with a single run in the bottom of the second inning. The Scrappers lone run would come on an RBI double by Mitch Longo that scored Emmanuel Tapia who had singled to start the inning.

Lowell would then pull away with three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Andy Perez and Tyler Hill would each pick up an RBI with base hits while Steven Reveles would get an RBI on a fielder's choice.

The Spinners would break the game open when they sent 11 batters to the plate in a five run fifth inning. Hill would again drive in a run on a base hit. Madera and Isaias Lucena would also chip in with RBI hits. The Spinners would end the inning leading 11-1.

Lowell would finish off the scoring with two more runs in the top of the eighth inning.

Juan Hillman (2-1) took his first loss of the season in 3.0 innings of work. He allowed six runs, four earned, on six hits. Hillman walked two and struck out one. Ping-Hsueh Chen would follow with 1.2 innings of relief. Chen allowed five runs, all earned, on five hits. Chen walked two and struck out one. Michael Letkewicz went 2.1 innings in relief. He allowed just one hit. Letkewicz walked two and struck out two. Ryan Perez would then go the final 2.0 innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits. Perez walked one and did not record a strike out.

The Scrappers (13-20) and Spinners (20-13) continue their series on Friday night at 7:05. 2016 4th round draft pick Shane Bieber will make his professional debut when he gets the start for the Scrappers.
