
Scrappers Bounced by Black Bears

(Morgantown, WV) - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers offense could not get out of the gates on Friday in West Virginia. The Scrappers fell behind early and couldn't catch up on their way to a 6-2 loss to the West Virginia Black Bears. The loss is the Scrappers first loss against the Black Bears this season.
West Virginia got on the board in the bottom of the second inning on a two out RBI single by Melvin Jimenez.
The Black Bears took advantage of a walk and two errors to add two runs in the bottom of the third. After an error and a one out walk, Jhon Herrera doubled to drive in two and pushed the score out to 3-0.
An infield single and a passed ball would add three more runs for the Black Bears in the fifth inning.
The Scrappers would avoid the shutout in the top of the eighth after loading the bases with no outs. Richie Palacios singled to score Gabriel Mejia with Mahoning Valley's first run of the game. Jose Fermin would score the second and final run for the Scrappers on a double play groundout.
In the loss, Tyler Freeman extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
Cameron Mingo (1-1) started and took the loss in 4.0 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits. Mingo walked 2 and struck out 5. Luis Valdez followed with 3.0 innings of relief. Valdez allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, on 3 hits. Valdez walked 3 and struck out 1. Luis Santos pitched the final inning. He allowed 1 hit while walking 1 and striking out 1.
The Scrappers (10-3) look for their fifth straight series win on Saturday night in West Virginia. Adoni Kery gets the start for the Scrappers. First pitch is 7:05.
