Batavia Muckdogs News Release
AUBURN, NY- In a game that did not see much offense, the Batavia Muckdogs lost to Auburn by a score of 3-1 at Falcon Park on Friday night. After game one of the series had seen both teams combine for 23 runs on 30 hits, the game Wednesday night saw just 12 total hits lead to four combined runs. Batavia tied their season low in runs scored, and set a new season low in hits with just five in the game.
RJ Peace started on the mound for Batavia, and had an excellent start, but did not earn the win for the second straight outing. Peace went five innings, only gave up one run on three hits, and struck out seven batters.
The lone run that Peace gave up crossed in the first inning. Adalberto Carillo hit a one out single, then Jacob Rhinesmith continued his tear to open the season by crushing an RBI double to the right field wall. It would end up being the only hit of the day for Rhinesmith, who finished 1-5.
Batavia would tie the game up in the sixth inning after only mustering three hits through the first five innings. Jose de los Santos came in relief as the third pitcher of the game for Auburn. He surrendered a leadoff walk to Auburn native Matt Brooks. A second straight walk then by Brayan Hernandez set up Michael Donadio to rip an RBI single that would score Brooks and tie the game.
However, the Doubledays would answer back with two of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Evan Estes came on in relief of Peace, and gave up two hits that produced two runs. One came to score on a wild pitch, and one more would be brought in on a single from Cole Daily to make the score 3-1.
The Muckdogs in total only had four at-bats with runners in scoring position, and only one hit which was the Donadio single. Bryce Howe also made an appearance out of the bullpen to throw two and two thirds innings of shutout ball.
The third and final game of the series is tomorrow in Auburn, with a 6:30 first pitch from Falcon Park. The Muckdogs then return home for a three game series against the West Virginia Black Bears.
