Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- Batavia plays their second series against Auburn. The Muckdogs dropped the first series by splitting the first two games and then dropping the rubber match. Batavia plays the first of two games in Falcon Park as part of the home-and-home.
That was yesterday- In an offensive shootout last night, Batavia could not climb out of a 6-0 hole that they dug in the first inning. All six of those runs came in unearned for Dakota Bennett. Batavia would make it as close as 6-5, but would never tie or take the lead in the game. The 14 Auburn runs are the most of any team against the Muckdogs so far this season.
Offense Overload- In eight of the first 12 games, Batavia has managed to score at least six runs in each of those contests. Batavia has one of the top scorers in the league, with Jerar Encarnacion sitting in first place with 13 runs scored, and Sean Reynolds in second with [INSERT RUNS]
Exploding Encarnacion- Jerar Encarnacion has been on a tear to start off the season. On his current eleven game hit streak to open the year, he's hitting .479. He leads the league in hits (23), doubles (6), he's second in extra base hits (7) and sits atop the league with his .479 average and his .500 OBP. He also has the most defensive assists by any outfielder in the league with three, all coming on June 19th against West Virginia.
Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on eight different occasions so far this season, and have gone 2-6 in those contests.
Turning up the heat- Batavia's offense in the last five games has seen more batters pick things up on offense. JD Osborne has hit .444 in the last five games with eight hits and four RBIs. Sean Reynolds has added a .412 average with a pair of home runs and ten RBIs in the last five games.
Familiar foes- The Doubledays and the Muckdogs meet ten more times this season, the most of any other team in the league. The next series comes around on August 8th for one game at Falcon Park, then two at Dwyer Stadium.
Recent Roster Action- On June 27th, Harrison White, Logan Boyd, and Doug Domnarski were all released. Jeremy Ovalle was called up to Greensboro. Batavia added five pitchers: Martin Anderson, Tanner Andrews, Even Estes, Tyler Mitzel, and Chris Vallimont. Infielder Luke Jarvis was assigned to Batavia
Marlins Update- The Marlins got shut out by the Diamondbacks last night by a score of 4-0. Miami had a total of ten hits in the ballgame, but they could not force a run across the plate. Zack Greinke went seven innings on the mound, and knocked in a run from the plate as well.
