Scrappers Blow past Williamsport 12-4

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers (11-18) brought out the bats for a season-high 19 hits in a 12-4 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters (21-9) at Bowman Field on Monday night.

The Scrappers brought out some extra base hits. Jodd Carter hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left center on his 19th birthday. Mark Mathias was a double shy of the cycle. He hit a triple, and also hit his first professional home run to center.

The middle of the lineup for Mahoning Valley was 12-for-15. Mathias, Emmanuel Tapia, Nate Winfrey, and Daniel Salters all had three hits. Three hits for Salters is a season-high for him. The Scrappers also left 14 men on base, but they were 7-for-20 with runners in scoring position.

Jimmy Stokes earned the win. He went two innings giving up two hits and walked two. It was a rough start for Dalton Keys, who went four and two-thirds, giving up nine hits and four runs. He walked four and struck out two.

The Scrappers return home for six games at Eastwood Field. They'll host the Staten Island Yankees for three and then the Brooklyn Cyclones. First pitch on Tuesday night against Staten Island is at 7:05 p.m. Casey Shane will take the hill for the Scrappers.
