Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Norwich, CT (7/20/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Connecticut Tigers by a score of 4-2 on Monday evening at Dodd Stadium.
Connecticut scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the first inning off four hits. First baseman Corey Baptist had a RBI double for the Tigers in the inning, third baseman Josh Lester and left fielder Jose Zambrano each had RBI singles and right fielder Tanner Donnels chipped in with a RBI ground out during the frame.
Neither team scored a run after that until the top of the eighth when the Renegades struck for a pair of runs. Shortstop Michael Russell tripled to center field, scoring second baseman Oscar Sanay to cut the Tigers lead to 4-1. Left fielder Joe McCarthy then drove in Russell on a RBI ground out to bring the score to 4-2.
Spenser Watkins (3-2) earned the win for Connecticut as he scattered two hits in six innings of work while striking out three batters. Jake Shull closed the game out for the Tigers, picking up his second save of the season. Renegades starter Cameron Varga (1-2) did not allow a hit or a run after the first inning despite taking the loss. Varga went six innings and struck out two on the night.
Tim Ingram pitched two scoreless innings to keep the Renegades within striking distance. Ingram has not allowed an earned run in his last four appearances, a streak that dates back to July 5th.
With the result, Hudson Valley sees their overall record fall to 16-13 and Connecticut improve to 13-16.
Notes: Hudson Valley finished the road trip with four wins and two losses, improving their overall road record on the season to 11-6. Their 11 wins is good for a share of the New York-Penn League lead for most road wins.
