Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Stymies Clippers in Game Two

July 20, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers dropped their second consecutive game to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 5-1, tonight at Huntington Park behind three homers from the opposition.

Aviatal Avalino was the first to go deep, taking Clippers' starter Adam Wilk out to left in the second inning to give the RailRiders a 1-0 lead.

They tacked on two more in the third with a Mike Ford RBI single and a groundout from Avalino to make it 3-0.

Rey Navarro, who homered in yesterday's game, made it two straight days with a dinger, stroking a solo shot of Wilk in the fourth to provide the RailRiders with a 4-0 advantage.

Tyler Austin did the same in the fifth with a no-doubt shot to the deepest part of the ballpark in center to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 5-0 lead.

Starter Luis Cessa was brilliant for the RailRiders, giving up just two hits in six scoreless innings. He didn't walk a batter and struck out nine.

The Clippers waited until there were two outs in the eighth to hop on the scoreboard. With a man on third, Todd Hankins singled up the middle to make it 5-1.

The teams will face off in the third game of the series at 7:15 p.m. tomorrow at Huntington Park.
