From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indians never trailed last night at Gwinnett, leading from the second inning on in a 10-3 rout. The Tribe raked 16 hits, led by a 5-for-5 performance from Kevin Kramer and 4-for-5 showing by Pablo Reyes. The duo each matched single-game highs with those performances. J.T. Brubaker benefitted from the run support, tossing five innings of two-run ball to earn his first win since June 12. He walked two and struck out five. Indy led 4-2 after five innings and broke the game open with a four-run sixth, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Adam Frazier and ensuing two-run blast by Austin Meadows. Kevin Newman hit a two-run shot in the ninth for his third dinger of 2018. The Indians snapped a four-game losing streak with the win, their third in eight games since the All-Star break.

FIVE GUYS: Kevin Kramer logged five hits last night for the second five-hit game of his career, the other coming on Aug. 24, 2015 with Short-Season A West Virginia vs. Batavia. He reached on a pair of infield singles to second base in his first two at-bats before bunting against the shift for a single in his third at-bat. He then singled and doubled in each of his final two plate appearances, making him the first Tribe player with five hits in a game since Josh Harrison went 5-for-5 on May 28, 2011 at Pawtucket.

ROAD WARRIOR: Kevin Kramer leads the team with 29 multi-hit games, 18 of which have occurred on the road. Kramer has hit safely in nine of his last 11 road starts, batting .487 (19-for-39) with four doubles, one triple and five RBI in those games combined. For the season, his home/road splits are drastic; his triple-slash line in 44 road games is .344/.408/.564 compared to .242/.293/.404 in 44 games at Victory Field.

GOOD RIDDANCE, STRIPERS: The Indians totaled 16 hits in last night's 10-3 win at Gwinnett, nearly matching their total of 18 knocks through the first three games of that series. The 10 runs scored and six extra-base hits (3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 homers) eclipsed their totals of seven runs and five extra-base hits combined through the series' first three contests. The Tribe went 4-for-14 (.286) with RISP last night; they were 4-for-24 (.167) in the first three games. Indy finished 3-8 in 11 meetings with Gwinnett this season, just the second time in 10 years where the Tribe lost the season series to the Stripers (also: 2009, 2-6).

FRAZIER FLAVA: Adam Frazier tallied six RBI in the four-game set at Gwinnett and was the only Tribe player to have at least one RBI in each game of the series. The four-game RBI streak is the second such occurrence of Frazier's career; his first four-game RBI stretch came from Aug. 3-7, 2013 with Short-Season A Jamestown. The first two games of that streak were vs. Brooklyn and the last two were at Vermont.

SUP HOLMES: Clay Holmes gets the nod for Indy tonight on the heels of a six-inning, no-run performance in the second game of a doubleheader on July 14 vs. Milwaukee at PNC Park. Holmes earned his first MLB win in that game, scattering four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. He hasn't pitched for Indianapolis since June 19 but had been dominant before being recalled; he went 4-0 with a 0.71 ERA (2 ER/25.1 IP) and 28 strikeouts against four walks in four June starts for Indy. His 0.71 ERA in June was the second-lowest monthly mark (min. 25.0 IP in a month) by a Tribe pitcher since 2005, the lowest being Nick Kingham's 0.34 ERA in June 2014.

IL SOUTH STRUGGLES: The Indians are 13-17 against the IL South this season with three games remaining, all against Charlotte this weekend. Indy had never lost the season series to the IL South as an affiliate of the Pirates prior to this season. Indy has finished below .500 against the IL South now six times since 1998. They went 22-26 in each of 1998, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2004. The '98 and '99 campaigns were Reds-affiliated seasons while the '01, '03 and '04 seasons were Brewers-affiliated campaigns.

DOUBLE-DIGIT HITS, FINALLY: The Indians' 16 hits last night snapped a 12-game stretch (July 4-18) where the Tribe posted single-digit hit totals, going 6-6 during that streak. The Indians hadn't won with a double-digit hit total since June 27 at Toledo, a 7-0 shutout over the Mud Hens where they tallied 11 knocks. Indy lost with double-digit hit totals on June 29 at Columbus (11 hits, L 10-6), June 30 at Columbus (17 hits, L 10-9) and July 3 at Louisville (10 hits, L 3-2). Indy is 27-9 when recording 10-plus hits this season and 24-35 when having nine or less.
