Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield Condors defenseman Scott Balan will be out for the rest of the season, after surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, an injury he suffered during the Condors 2-1 shootout win over the Utah Grizzlies on March 7. Balan is expected to be sidelined for six to eight months, and should be ready to return at the beginning of the 2007-08 season.

Balan played in 56 games for the Condors this season, tallying 13 points (3g, 10a) and 110 penalty mintues. The 6-foot, 3-inch, native of Red Deer, Alberta, was a great asset on the blue line and one of the Condors strongest defensemen.

"We will obviously miss him in the playoffs and hope for a quick recovery," said Condors head coach Marty Raymond.

Balan ranked second among Condors defensemen with 26 assists and 29 points last season, his first with the Condors. He began this season training with the American Hockey League's Manchester Monarchs, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings. Balan was a fourth round selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

The Condors' next home game is this Saturday night. FOX 58, 98.5 The Fox and Three Way Chevrolet present the Blues Brothers Act LIVE in The Nest. Game starts at 7 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m.

Individual game tickets are on sale and may be purchased through the Rabobank Arena Box Office. Playoff tickets and group outings are also available at the Condors office located at 1001 Truxtun Avenue or by calling 324-PUCK (7825).
