New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Colorado came into New Mexico and defeated the Scorpions 5-2 on Saturday night. The loss kept the Scorpions in third place in the Southwest Division, four points behind division leader Odessa.
Chris Robertson started March the way he ended February, by scoring goals. Blair Stayzer broke up a pass in the neutral zone and started a rush up the ice with Robertson. Robertson took a wrist shot from the top of the circle and found the back of the net.
Colorado came back by winning a draw in the offensive zone. Aaron Schneekloth grabbed the puck and launched a slap shot from the blue line and into the net.
The Eagles took control in the second period with two goals. Ed McGrane pushed a rebound into the net 3:02 into the middle frame. With Colorado on the power play, Greg Pankewicz increased his team's lead at the 15:28 mark.
The teams traded goals in the final period. Pankewicz scored his second goal of the game only 19 seconds into the third period. The Scorpions answered on the power play as Craig Macdonald knocked home his 23rd goal of the season.
Late in the game the Scorps pulled goalie Mike Minard in favor of the extra attacker. Unfortunately, it worked out in the Eagles favor as Pankewicz scored his third goal of the evening.
The Scorpions finish their three-game home stand on Tuesday against Odessa. Be in the Santa Ana Star Center for the puck drop at 7:15 p.m. It is another "2-for-Tuesday" with ticket specials at the box office.
