
Hounds defeat Thunder 6-3

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds defeated the Wichita Thunder 6-3 on Saturday night. The Hounds improve to 31-19-4, 66 points and remain in fourth place in the Northern Conference standings.
Bryan Lachapelle put Youngstown up 1-0 at 2:16 of the first period with his fourth goal of the season. Mark Odut scored his first of two goals on the night at 8:14 to give the Hounds a 2-0 lead. Joel Irving kept the momentum going with his 21st tally of the season at 14:57 to put the Hounds up 3-0. With 14 seconds left in the period and a two man advantage for the Thunder, Head Coach Rob Weingartner pulled goalie Bill Zaniboni to give his team a six-on-three advantage. The strategy worked as Travis Clayton netted his 14th of the year to make it 3-1 after one period.
In the second period Wichita made it a 3-2 game thanks to a goal from Kyle Bruce at 14:08. Nathan Schwartzbauer scored a shorthanded goal at 18:29 to put Youngstown up 4-2. Schwartzbauer is on a two game goal scoring streak and has three goals on the season. Prior to last night he had not scored in 42 games.
In the third period Mark Odut added his second goal of the night at 1:09 to put the Hounds up 5-2. Kevin Jarman scored at 2:34 to make it 6-2. Cedric Bernier scored at 9:08 for Wichita to finish the scoring at 6-3. Youngstown out shot the Thunder 37-34. The six goals for Youngstown gave the over 4,100 fans in attendance free Big Mac's from McDonalds.
The Hounds and Thunder finish their three game series on Sunday afternoon at 4:05. All fans will receive Rick Nash "Rick Bands" and fans can bring their skates to skate with the Hounds after the game.
