November 24, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[LAREDO, Tex.]-The Scorpions fell behind early, fought back in the middle, but ultimately lost to Laredo 5-2 Saturday night. The loss was the third straight for the Scorpions on the road trip.
Unlike last night, the Bucks got on the board first Saturday night. Adam Rivet scored a power play goal at the 9:06 mark giving the Bucks a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Jeff Bes knocked home a rebound, his 14th goal of the season, giving Laredo the two-goal lead.
The Scorpions came out the quicker team in the second period. New Mexico worked hard and jumped on the lose puck deep in the Laredo zone. With bodies lying on the ice all over the place, Michael Kolarz pushed the puck into an open net cutting the Bucks lead to a single goal.
Momentum continued for the Scorpions as they were awarded their first power play of the night. Konrad Reeder lifted the puck over the shoulder of goaltender Dustin Traylen, tying the game at two.
Laredo reclaimed the lead when they took advantage of a turnover inside the Scorpions zone. Bes moved the puck to Genovy who scored his first goal of the season, giving Laredo the 3-2 lead.
The Bucks never let the Scorpions get closer in the third period. Steve Simoes scored a short handed goal, giving the Bucks back their two-goal lead. Rane Carnegie added an empty net tally to give Laredo their tree-goal victory.
Late in the third period things got crazy and tempers flared. Gloves were tossed, helmets came off and the fans were treated to a handful of fights, including a square off between the goaltenders Mike Minard and Traylen.
New Mexico finishes their "South Texas Swing" Sunday afternoon against Corpus Christi. The game begins at 2:05 p.m. and can be heard on 610 The Sports Animal or seen for free on the CHL Network.
The Scorpions return home on Friday, November 30 when the Colorado Eagles make a visit to the Santa Ana Star Center at 7:15 p.m. The first 1,500 fans inside the gates will receive trading card set #3, courtesy of Turtle Mountain Brewing Company and Sandoval County.
