Rage Win Seventh Straight
November 24, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
North Richland Hills, Texas - The Rocky Mountain Rage defeated the Texas Brahmas, 4-3, at the Nytex Sports Centre, weathering a furious three-goal rally from the Brahmas who nearly overcame a 4-0 deficit. Rocky Mountain extends its winning streak to seven in a row and leads the Northwest Division with a record of 12-1-1 and 25 points.
The Rage set the tone early with a pair of unassisted goals. Daymen Rycroft kept the puck to himself on a two-on-one and blasted a slapshot past Texas goaltender David Cacciola just 1:45 into the game. Brent Cullaton continued the trend when he stole an outlet pass while skating short-handed and finished the play for his second of the campaign at 5:26. Scott Wray then re-directed a Cullaton shot from the point on the power play at 10:34 to give Rocky Mountain a 3-0 lead through 20 minutes.
Rycroft picked up his second goal of the night at 1:04 of the middle frame when he took a perfect feed from Cullaton off the end boards to become the third Rage player to reach the 10-goal mark this season, joining Wray and Simon Watson. After a lengthy delay due to the arena lights going off, the teams resumed play with Rocky Mountain continuing to dominate the action. Texas goaltender Jim Healy, who replaced Cacciola after the Rage scored their fourth goal, played outstanding to keep it a 4-0 game heading to the third despite his club getting out-shot, 21-5, during the period.
Healy's work in the second paid dividends in the third when his club began to rally. Tyler Skworchinski lit the lamp at 7:15 to get Texas on the board. The Brahmas then struck on back-to-back power plays - a five-on-three followed by the ensuing five-on-four - just 11 seconds apart to cut the Rage lead to one with 5:26 remaining. Rocky Mountain reached the final buzzer with its 4-3 lead intact, though, and earned a two-game season sweep of Texas with the win.
Terry Dunbar replaced Rage starting goaltender Scott Reid early in the second period after Reid left because of illness. Reid stopped all eight shots he faced, and Dunbar stopped 14 of 17 over the game's final 38:09.
Rocky Mountain next takes the ice on Friday, Nov. 30, at Broomfield Event Center when the club hosts the Arizona Sundogs at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a Rage Thunderstick courtesy of 9 News.
