New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions rocked the Santa Ana Star Center with a 6-3 Friday night victory over Rocky Mountain . It was a game of streaks as the two teams used sets of goals in the contest.
New Mexico came out and picked up three goals in the first half of the game. The Rage fought back for three goals in the last part of the second period. In the third it was all Scorps' as they finished the game with three more goals.
Mike Falk, Lance Herauf and Chris Robertson worked well on a line together. The three forwards combined for eight points to help pace the first place Scorpions.
Ryan McLeod opened up the scoring 2:26 into the first period with his fifteenth goal of the season. Robertson started his three point night with a rebound goal just under five minutes into the game. Andrew Smale gave the Scorpions their first goal lead when he put a Mike Prpich pass to the back of the net.
Mike Wires started the comeback for Rocky Mountain at the 10:35 mark with his eleventh goal of the season. Dan Vandermeer and John DiPace each scored power play goals to tie the game at the end of two periods.
The Scorpions came out fast in the final frame. Mike Falk put the Scorps' back on top for good with his nineteenth goal of the season. Robertson continued his big night with a great play.
After blocking a Rage shot Robertson hustled down the ice for a breakaway. Rage goalie David Guererra got to the pick first but could not clear it past Robertson. After tracking the puck down behind the net, Robertson found Herauf with a perfect pass. Herauf had no trouble putting the puck to the back of the net. Josh Garbutt added a power play goal for the margin of victory.
Tomorrow night the Scorpions make their first trip of the season to Odessa . The southwest Division battle starts at 6:05 p.m. Mountain Time. Tune in to 1050 KTBL to hear all the action with Adam Minnick.
