Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

The Youngstown SteelHounds set a new record for most shots in one game but that was not enough as they lost to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night.

David Masse got the scoring started early for the visitors as he recorded his 22nd of the season and made it 1-0 in the seventh minute of the first period. Garrett Larson kept his hot streak going with his first of both SteelHounds goals, this coming from the returning Matt Hanson at 16:24 to tie the game at one after 20 minutes of play. For Larson he has scored a goal in every game he has played since joining Youngstown on January 19th.

The second period saw Y-Town's Milan Maslonka get ejected after an eight man brawl that happened midway through the period. To throw salt onto that wound was Matt Reynolds who scored unassisted to make it 2-1 Killer Bees after two periods.

Garrett Larson brought the Hounds back on a power play goal in the fifth minute of the third period to tie the game at two. The teams ended up in a shootout where the Bees scored two goals to the SteelHounds zero to give Rio Grande Valley a 3-2 victory at the Chevrolet Centre. The loss while not in regulation is the fifth straight at home for Youngstown.

Despite setting a new franchise record for shots in a game with 55, former SteelHound goaltender Jeremy Symington proved to be large with 53 saves including a perfect performance in the shootout to propel his team to the victory. Youngstown remains in third place in the Northeast division with a record of 16-13-8 for 40 points. These two teams go at it again at 7:05pm.
