San Antonio Missions News Release

Nick Schulz's walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th gave San Antonio a thrilling 2-1 win Wednesday afternoon at Wolff Stadium.

Runs were at a premium Wednesday, with San Antonio's Kyle Lloyd and Corpus Christi's Edison Frias matching zeroes through the first three innings.

Lloyd's only mistake in his five innings on the hill came in the fourth when Chase McDonald singled home Conrad Gregor from third. Lloyd allowed five hits and four walks, while striking out four on the afternoon.

Frias did not allow a hit until a two-out single to catcher Miguel Castillo in the fifth. Mason Smith followed with a double to left center, which nearly tied the game at one, but shortstop Alex Bregman's relay throw gunned down Castillo at the plate.

San Antonio finally took advantage of a Frias mistake in the following inning when Jose Rondon tied the game with a solo homer down the left-field line. It was Rondon's fifth dinger of the season.

The game then morphed into a battle of bullpens. Both teams had their chances, but each time, the pens held firm. The Missions used five different pitchers following Lloyd, and incredibly, held the Hooks to just one more hit over the game's final eight innings.

San Antonio finally pieced together a game-winning rally in the 13th against lefty Michael Freeman. Auston Bousfield began the frame with a walk before quickly advancing to second on a Rondon sacrifice bunt. Corpus Christi (1-1, 48-24) elected to intentionally walk Nick Torres to set up force plays. That brought up Schulz, who drilled a single up the middle, scoring Bousfield and ending a game of three hours, forty-four minutes.

Jimmy Brasoban (1-0) earned the win for the Missions with a perfect inning of relief.

San Antonio (1-1, 23-49) hits the road Thursday to open up a four-game series against Midland. First pitch from Security Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 7:00 PM. T.J. Weir (2-2, 5.85) will get the ball for the Missions, while the RockHounds counter with fellow righty Daniel Gossett (0-2, 3.32).

Notes: The 13 innings matched San Antonio's longest game (by innings) of 2016 (5/17 vs. Corpus Christi). The win snapped the Missions' 13-game losing skid against the Hooks.
