Schneider named starting goalie for PlanetUSA in 2009 AHL All-Star Classic

The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, are pleased to announce goaltender Cory Schneider has been named the starting goaltender for the PlanetUSA All-Star Team in the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications. This year's All-Star Classic will be held at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA from January 25th-26th, 2009.

Schneider, 22, has appeared in 11 games so far this season with the Moose and has a record of 10-1-0. The Marblehead, MA native is currently riding a franchise-record 10-game personal winning streak with one shutout that came on Nov. 2/08 at Peoria. He has played in 47 games in his two-year pro career with the Moose. Last season, he compiled a record of 20-12-2 with a goals against average of 2.28 and a save percentage of .913 - both of which ranked second amongst AHL rookie netminders. Schneider was named the Rbk Edge/AHL Rookie of the Month for March and started all six Calder Cup games for Manitoba in the playoffs where he posted a 2-4 record with 1.92 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.

Schneider also made his first appearance in the National Hockey League this season as he was recalled to the Vancouver Canucks on Nov. 22/08. He made his NHL debut Nov. 29 @ Calgary where he stopped 28 of 31 shots in a 3-0 defeat but was named the game's second star. He played in eight games during his recall earning a 2-4-1 record. He recorded his first-ever NHL win Dec. 5 @ Minnesota after stopping 16 of 17 shots.

Schneider was originally drafted by Vancouver in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2004 NHL entry draft.
